However, Lance easily defats Silver and then proceeds to berate the young man for his way of training Pokemon with Lance stating Silver does not believe in nor trust his Pokemon. However, later in the game, when Silver interferes during the player character's attempt to take down Team Rocket in Mahogany Town and later, Goldenrod City, he finds himself meeting Lance, the Champion of the Elite Four at Indigo Plateau in the Mahogany Town hideout with Silver challenging Lance to a battle. He doesn't treat his PokГ©mon with respect, but rather as fighting machines to make him appear powerful and menacing with Silver vowing to take down any Trainer he regards as weak. He will occasionally challenge the player character, and will become enraged when defeated. He later steals a Sneasel from an unknown Trainer, further showing his cold nature.

In Gold and Silver ( Generation II), he steals a starter PokГ©mon from the lab and is extremely rude and bad-tempered toward the player character, even going so far as to physically shove them on some occasions.
